Just putzing around with the cover image. I love that vintage poster look that I've seen other artist achieve. The cover is actually a nod to my love of the early 1970s UK glam/glitter rock movement. I was thinking of creating some more pieces like this with actual figures from that era. Bowie, Bolan, Eno, Queen, Sweet, etc.
Between the two of them sir, I like the toned one best, what a difference. Your facial caricature is great too. That white outline has an interesting effect since we as an audience are customary to seeing black contours usually. It looks like her pant line is choking her back fat which is atypical to most of your pieces.
Yes. Each color is on a separate layer from the pencil drawing. When I'm happy with the colors, I go back to the pencil layer and start adjusting the curves and levels settings to colorize the pencil. This way the colored layers aren't on to top of a gray drawing. Just make sure, once you've created your color layers and you're happy with them (This is before you adjust the pencil), save the file as a safety measure by creating 2 of these files. One to work on, one to keep "just incase". This way, if you mess up, you won't have to start all the way from the beginning.
I've always wondered how to do something like this. It seems like that adjusting the pencil shade will help that value appear to have more of a layered color look below a color opacity.
